This dictionary is so STRANGE that one wonders from WHERE did those "definitions" come ? . . . and WHY ?If the reader is WISE, he/she had better verify Mr. Benner's meanings from another source. Here are JUST THREE examples on the FIRST page of his definitions. These examples are quite representative of the work found in the rest of the dictionary. On page 17, ABRAHAM is defined in Strong's #11 Greek as "Abraham." The equivalent number in Strong's Hebrew concordance is # 85 which is , ACCORDING TO THIS DICTIONARY, " Avraham --- A personal name of Hebrew origin meaning "Father lifted up." "Is that CORRECT ? Well, NOT EXACTLY. A closer look at STRONG'S shows us that Hebrew # 87 states that AVRAM is "high father" or "exalted father."But, The LORD GOD changed AVRAM into Ab-RA-HAM , according to Genesis 17:5. In which case, the meaning of the change in ABRAHAM'S name was to reflect "Father of Multitudes." This is Strong's Hebrew # 85 !We know Mr. Strong was correct in HIS definition because Scripture verifies what Mr. Strong gave as his definition of Abraham in Genesis 17:5.Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, (H87) but thy name shall be Abraham; ( H85 ) for a father of many ( H1995) [ goyim ] nations have I made thee.CONTINUING ON, now on PAGE 17 of this New Testament Greek to Hebrew Dictionary:The NEXT entry is AGATHOS, which means "good" in Greek. Mr. Benner's Dictionary equates the Greek "GOOD" with the Hebrew word TOV . Well, that is "GOOD" SO FAR ! Strong's Hebrew # is 2896.Mr. Benner's DEFINITION of "good" , however, is NOT SO GOOD. The dictionary, page 17, second entry , states TOV is a NOUN. It means FUNCTIONAL. " Fulfilling the action for which a person or thing is specially fitted or used, or for which a thing exists. A functioning within its intended purpose. "So . . . is FUNCTIONAL what is meant by GOOD in Genesis 2:9 ?And out of the ground made the LORD GOD to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of GOOD and evil. Genesis 2:9.If GOOD = FUNCTIONAL, then does EVIL = Non-FUNCTIONAL ? ? ?Then Genesis 2:9 would read ... the knowledge of FUNCTIONAL AND NON-FUNCTIONAL ???It seems that GOOD is the direct opposite of BAD, doesn't it ? Even a school child understands that.Let us move on to AGAPA love, the next item on page 17. He has two entries for AGAPA, one a verb form and one , the noun form. Mr. Benner's dictionary equates those words with AHAV or AHAVA in Hebrew. The essence is that Mr. Benner's definition for AHAVAH , the noun, ( which is equated with AGAPA in his dictionary ), is "AFFECTION --- a moderate feeling or emotion. A tender attachment or fondness." His verb definition for AHAV is on that same order. Now, the LXX or Septuagint ( which is really the faulty Vaticanus Codex B --- We DO NOT HAVE the original Septuagint, if there ever was one ) ... does indeed equate AGAPA with AHAVA .In 1 SAMUEL 20:17 , we read: And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he LOVED him: for he loved him as he LOVED his own soul.In the faulty Septuagint, AGAPA forms are used in the Greek as the AHAV forms are used in the Hebrew.THAT kind of AGAPA love goes beyond affection, family ties, and friendship.AGAPA means an INTENSE LOVE that is given, not earned . . . the kind that JESUS had for us, for while we were YET SINNERS, CHRIST died for us. Romans 5:8. [ i.e., Y'SHUA+ the MOSHIYACH , for Hebrew readers or Y'SHU+ the M'SHIKHA+ for Aramaic readers. ]What Mr. Benner is describing as LOVE is really the Greek word PHILEO --- tender attachment or fondness. Our LORD'S AGAPA love was quite higher than PHILEO !Well, Dear Reader, these are the kinds of definitions available in this not-so-accurate dictionary.Another such confused word is RUACH , pg 87, stated as WIND instead of SPIRIT. Yes, it might be WIND on a hillside, but spiritually-speaking, it is best to translate RUACH as SPIRIT . . . as in the RUACH ha KADOSH . . . the HOLY SPIRIT.EVEN WORSE, Mr. Benner does NOT even state that SPIRIT is ALSO A MEANING OF RUACH !With MANY WORDS, it seems that Mr. Jeff A. Benner has missed the mark . His methodology of using the faulty LXX to equate the Greek to the Hebrew words is open to question . . . MANY questions. This dictionary will only confuse someone not acquainted with Hebrew or Greek or Aramaic . . . or even the Scriptures. I am afraid to give this book out to others, simply for the confusion that it works.May The LORD have mercy on its readers and move them to more SOLID material in their study of the HOLY WORD of GOD.Sincerely, Yours for TRUTH+ IN THE INNER MAN ,and His+ Name is JESUS [ Y'SHUA+ in Hebrew, Y'SHU+ in Aramaic, JESUCRISTO+ in Spanish, etc. ]Sr. Judith Hannah + + +

I took Greek and have yet to tackle Hebrew. In the meantime, this is an interesting approach to understanding Scripture. Meanings can get lost in translation, so it is interesting to see what the Greeks used for Hebrew terms and concepts. When I read the New Testament, having been raised in Torah, there are things that I realize that I don't hear from pulpits. That's because of the emphasis on the New vs the so-called Old Testament. There are concepts often missed by Greek only thinkers, when attempting to interpret or explain New Testament events or thoughts. For example: the woman trying to touch the hem of Jesus' garment. Tell the truth: don't you imagine a lady crawling on the ground trying to catch up to Jesus to get at the bottom of his robe or cloak? In fact, she is reaching for the wings or tassels of His prayer shawl. (ref. Malachi 4:2 )

Husband likes this so far.

I did find this book interesting, but somewhat incomplete. If the word you want to find happens to be one of the 500 included, then you're good. However, many of the words I was enthusiastically looking up were not contained and it was a bummer.

Learning the Ancient Hebrew culture and the real meaning of the Hebrew words is thrilling and clarifying to my study. Not just the Old Testament, but the New Testament, too.Dana

This book lists the five hundred most frequent Greek words of the New Testament and provides their Hebrew translations and Hebraic definitions, with all Greek and Hebrew words cross-referenced with Strong's numbers.

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. THE ONLY WAY TO GO , ARAMAIC FIRST SINCE THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS FIRST WRITTEN IN ARAMAIC BY ARAMAIC SPEAKING FOLLOWERS OF THE MESSIAH.

has all the important words you need.. worth the buy for sure and very helpful. Benner is very good about keeping the original concepts.
